This heat shield is designed to work with popular (Full-Race, ETS, MAPerformance, STM, Driven Fab, Hypertune, JM Fabrications, BP Autosports, Sheepey Built, etc), stock replacement tubular turbo manifolds for the 2008+ Mitsubishi EVO X. It is highly recommended for all EVO X’s with plastic valve covers (2010+), which tend to melt with the use of most aftermarket manifolds. It is also recommended for all EVO X’s in racing applications, even with metal valve covers (2008-2009). It is a superior heat management solution compared to ceramic coating or header wrap and won’t rattle or vibrate much like metal heat shields.

Instructions

  1. Make sure to wear gloves as it may cause your skin to itch in direct contact of the blanket materials.
  2. We recommend installing the blanket after the manifold, turbo and downpipe have all been installed. Otherwise, access to the hardware may be restricted if installed prior.
  3. Install the bottom half and connect the first stainless steel extension spring into place around the manifold collector area.
  4. Position the top half into place by aligning the D-Rings on both pieces. If manifold design allows, tuck the blanket under the valve cover bolts and in between the head and runners. Also make sure there are no noticeable air gaps between the halves, especially near the firewall, plastic or sensors.
  5. Once you are happy with the fitment, secure the bottom half to the top half by connecting all the stainless extension springs.

FAQ

  • Is it a fire hazard?

    First off, DO NOT use this product on a vehicle with an oil leak. If there is an oil leak present, fix it first and clean up any residue before installing this product.

    However, the likelihood of a fire occurring after installation is very rare but certainly possible with oil in direct contact. A small oil drop here and there on the exterior surface is not going to soak through instantly and cause a fire though. The inherently flame-retardant material is very thick, unlike header wrap, and it would take quite a bit of oil saturation to soak through and cause an "oil fire".

    On the flip side, it can act as a barrier as well. If a major oil leak were to develop on the high pressure line around the turbo area WITHOUT utilizing this product, or even just with only ceramic coating, the oil could directly come in contact with the hot metal surfaces and would be more vulnerable to ignite.

    Should there be smoke or a burning smell after first use?

    This product can emit smoke during the first heat cycle. You might also smell a burning odor for a few days but it will eventually go away.
